Dr Mabasa is a specialist orthopaedic surgeon with extensive training in spine, joint, pelvis and trauma surgery. He also has had additional training in the treatment of sports injuries and working on soft tissue (ligamentous) injuries and pathologies.
He obtained his vast experience in orthopaedic conditions while working in some of South Africa’s busiest government hospitals. After he completed his medical studies in 2006 at Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University, he went on to complete a two-year internship program at Mokopane hospital. He also spent a year in Khensani hospital where he completed the community service program. It was during the time at Khensani hospital where his passion for orthopaedics was cemented. This led him to be offered a medical officer post at Makweng hospital where he worked exclusively in the department of orthopaedic surgery.
In 2014 he was admitted as a fellow at the College of Orthopaedic Surgeons of South Africa. It was during his fellowship training when he moved to Dr George Mukhari academic hospital. In 2015 he was also admitted to the master of medicine (M.Med.) program, specialising in orthopaedic surgery at Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University. He qualified as a full specialist in 2017.
